Never go to an audition unprepared- be presentable, have your portofolio, comp. cards, business cards, resumes;etc
Always be on time - if it is an open call, be there at least an hour early- if you are late, you may not be seen and you wasted a trip!
Be careful what you say or do - some auditions require a long wait time. In this time period, you may make friends on line- it may seem as though no one is watching, but there are eyes and ears everywhere and any poor conduct or actions may cost you!
Do not overdress, underdress or wear too much make-up!! Many people make this mistake but if you want to be taken seriously, dress presentably and go natural with the make-up- unless you want to be an American Idol reject or something ;)
Be curtious of others- wherever you go- always be polite and act professional- this reflects on YOU - people do not want to work with rude or inconsiderate people!! If you smoke, make sure you smoke in a designated area and not in the face of a non-smoker- non-smokers do not want to share your habit - & that non-smoker may be the client who is casting the talent that day!!
Always carry a small mirror, a bottle of water, some snacks, and reading material or an ipod-You will never know the wait time for an audition so be prepared!! Check yourself- your hair, make-up, teeth;etc. Keep hydrated- especially actors & singers. Also, you don't know if there will be food and drinks given or for sale where you are so it is good to BE PREPARED..
Always have sheet music, a monologue or two, a demo; etc. You never know what they will ask for and if you have it, there is a better chance for you to get the job :)
Put on a happy face :) !! Don't ever go to a casting with a grumpy face or bad attitude- even if you've had the worst day- this is the entertainment business- we are all actors- so act happy!
Don't give up! There will be people who think you are wasting your time & money, don't believe in you;etc. Believe in yourself. If this is something you want, it can happen. Do not become discouraged if you have a bad audition, did not get the part; etc. You will go on a thousand auditions and out of that thousand, you will get 2 or 3 jobs. So put your head up and keep trying!
A "polaroid" is a picture, where the model does not have any make up on and the picture has not been re-touched. When submitting polaroids to an agency or company, remember to have a clean as possible look- no make up, no accessories, no flashy printy type clothing. They just need to see YOU. If you have any piercings, leave them in.
Have fun!! Always remember besides this being your dream, you are also in this for your love of it, so have fun with it :)
