CASTING INFORMATION

Cast Size: Medium/Large (14-18)

Cast Type: Young adults ranging from 17-30 years of age; Ensemble Cast; Ethnic Roles

Dance Requirement: Minimal-Heavy (depends on character)

Vocal Requirement: Heavy/Extremely Demanding

WHAT TO EXPECT

Vocals: Please prepare 16-32 measures of a pop/rock song thatshowcases the range of the character(s) that you wish to audition for.It is strongly recommended that you do NOT audition with a song fromthe show itself. However, you should expect to learn a few bars fromthe show taught by the music director.

Dance: You should expect to learn a short routine taught by thechoreographer. However, everyone is NOT expected to be in dancingclothes since the routine will vary from person to person depending onrole(s) auditioning for.

Acting: You do NOT need to prepare any monologue of any kind.However, expect to be given excerpts from the show that will be actedout.

**You MUST bring your resume with headshot attached. If you do nothave a headshot, please attach a normal photo of you instead**

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Mark Cohen- an unsuccessful filmmaker who was just dumped

Vocal- tenor

Dance- medium/minimal; must be able to move well

Roger Davis- a struggling songwriter who is HIV positive

Vocal- tenor/high tenor; raw rock vocal quality preferred

Dance- minimal

Mimi Marquez- an exotic dancer who is HIV positive

Vocal- mostly mezzo with some belting

Dance- heavy (she’s a stripper…comes with the territory)

Angel Dumott Schunard- a homosexual drag queen percussionist with AIDS

Vocal- high tenor (when I say high, I mean HIGH)

Dance- heavy; must feel (or learn to feel) comfortable in heels

Tom Collins- a gay philosophy professor and anarchist with AIDS

Vocal- bass/baritone

Dance- minimal

Maureen Johnson- a bisexual performance artist

Vocal- alto/mezzo soprano; must be able to belt

Dance- minimal

Joanne Jefferson- a lawyer, who is a lesbian

Vocal- alto; must be able to belt

Dance- minimal

Benjamin 'Benny' Coffin III- the local landlord and a former roommate of Roger, Mark, Collins, and Maureen

Vocal- baritone/tenor

Dance- minimal

Ensemble Roles (6-10)- Actors/actresses will be required to playmultiple roles (3-5) throughout the show. All ensemble roles are ofutmost importance and all have their own solo segments. Therefore,vocal requirements are still very high with dancing being variabledepending on the particular character being portrayed.
